Athena CEO Honored as “Woman of the Year Finalist"
SD Magazine Hosts Annual Celebrating Women Awards

San Diego – September 25, 2018 – Athena, a professional association dedicated to advancing women in STEM, is proud to announce its CEO, Holly Smithson, is a “2018 Year of the Woman” finalist for The San Diego Magazine’s “Nonprofit Visionary” category.  This honor recognizes outstanding individuals for their impactful service and special contributions to their community, civic or charitable organizations.

“I couldn’t be more excited to stand shoulder to shoulder with these women warriors who are making their mark in the San Diego business community and beyond," said Holly Smithson.  "I also commend the SD Magazine for hosting this awards program on the heels of what we at Athena describe as: “The Decade of the Woman,” Smithson continued.

For 20 years, Athena has been closing the gender gap in the STEM workforce by creating instruments of change through professional development, community investment and market research.

The San Diego Magazine’s Celebrating Women Awards convened over 600 San Diego change agents on September 25, 2018 at The Westgate Hotel.
