Athena Announces Vanessa Miranda As Its New Programs Champion

SAN DIEGO, September 10, 2019 – Athena, California’s premier advocate for professional women in STEM, announces the addition of Vanessa Miranda as its Programs Champion.

“As the voice of women in STEM, Athena is excited to have Vanessa join us and expand our capacity to serve our 750+ member portfolio,” said Holly Smithson, Athena CEO. “Our members will significantly benefit from her experience and impact in building non-profit advocacy organizations that empower and educate women in high tech,” Smithson continued.

Miranda previously served on the board of directors for Girls in Tech San Diego, a global non-profit organization that educates and empowers women in technology. She also is a co-founder of #LatinaGeeks San Diego, the first and only advocacy group serving Latinas in the region. In 2019, both the California State Senate and City of San Diego recognized #LatinaGeeks for its invaluable contributions to the Latina community.

“I have a deep passion for empowering women through education, mentoring and networking.  Leaving the tech sector to lead Athena’s leadership programs is a natural progression that allows me to combine my tech experience with my organizational leadership and help drive greater confidence, career and community among Athena members,” said Vanessa Miranda.
